Right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have two legitimate NFL starting quarterbacks on the roster. The combination of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are 5-2 this season and Pittsburgh has the best quarterback room in the AFC right now.
But the reality of the NFL is it is hard to keep a team together when it comes to free agency. Both Fields and Wilson are set to hit free agency at the end of the season and the Steelers don’t negotiate contracts in-season. This means we won’t know until after the conclusion of the 2024 season if Pittsburgh has either guy in their long-term plans.
For us, we expect the Steelers to let the season play out with Wilson as the starter and then once things wrap up, sign one of them to a new contract and let the other leave in free agency. If Wilson keeps playing like he did last week, he could earn himself a significant payday for Pittsburgh or another team.
