Which Big Ten schools have never won a national championship in football?

You might not think it now considering the conference’s recent history, but the Big Ten was quite the powerhouse back in the day.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were the last national championship winners to come out of the Big Ten back in 2014, with their most recent appearance in the title game coming in the 2020-21 season. Outside of Ohio State, however, only five other Big Ten teams have made it to the national championship game since 2000, a tough stretch for a proud conference.

While it may be difficult to predict the future, let us cast our minds back through history to take a look at which Big Ten teams have never won national championships and which ones have.

National champions in: 1952, 1965, 1966
National champions in: 1942, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968, 1970, 2002, 2014
National champions in: 1911, 1982, 1986

National champions in: 1919, 1923, 1927
National champions in: 1958
National champions in: 1934, 1935, 1936, 1940, 1941, 1960
National champions in: 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995, 1997
National champions in: 1953 (won with the ACC)
