Where was Glass Onion filmed? The resort and island where Netflix film was shot

With sweeping shots of a sun-drenched island surrounded by azure-blue waters, it’s no wonder the Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has proved popular viewing during the gloomy depths of winter. A sequel to the 2019 film, Glass Onion has swapped the dreary New England setting of the original for a sunny Greek island.

It sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as Benoit Blanc, a world-famous detective, as he takes on a new mystery. Although it’s a standalone film with a completely different plot and cast - except for Craig - it features all the twists and turns that fans of the original will love.

In the sequel Blanc must unravel the mystery surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron, played by Edward Norton, who invites a group of his old friends to his mansion the Glass Onion on a private island. The film features a star-studded cast, including Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn and Kate Hudson.

It’s safe to say that despite the film’s famous faces, it’s the setting which is the real star of the show. In the film the characters all arrive at a port in Greece, before heading out to the Glass Onion island via a luxury yacht. When they arrived they’re invited to enjoy the delights of Miles’ lavish villa - but as we all know this is a Knives Out mystery, so things don’t go quite as planned.

The external shots of Glass Onion were filmed in Greece. The first glimpse we get is of the island of Spetses, which is where the guests first arrive before getting on the yacht to Miles' private island.

The villa in the Glass Onion is in fact the luxury resort Aman, near Porto Heli. Production designer Rick Heinrichs told Condé Nast Traveller why he chose it: “It’s very epic, almost like the Colosseum, to approach the villa—which lends itself to the idea that people are about to kill each other.”

He also revealed that the resort isn’t in fact on an island, but on a peninsula. Special effects were used to make it look like an island for the film.

Internal scenes were filmed on a stage in Serbia, including those which were set in the US. Some external scenes were also shot on location in America, Heinrichs revealed.
