Where to travel to in Spain this October for a sunny Autumn holiday

If you're looking to book a getaway this Autumn, Spain could be an excellent choice for anyone seeking sunshine in October. Despite the weather starting to turn back home in the UK, Spain still offers many warm and exotic locations (particularly in the south) that all but guarantee a sunny trip.

Fortunately, October is also a cheaper month to visit the famous European country, as the peak time for Summer getaways is essentially over. This means that attractions, flights, and hotel costs are going to be cheaper in October than in August or July.

Here is a list of Spanish destinations that are popular to visit in October:

Formentera

An Island in the Balearics that is often overlooked, Formentera is one of the hottest places in Spain during October, with temperatures regularly hitting 25 degrees. Its beautiful beaches are famous for their "pink sand", and the island hosts a three-day festival towards the start of October featuring local cuisine and live music, as well as the promotion of nature and heritage to promote sustainable tourism on the island.

Huelva

Located towards the country's south (near Seville), Huelva is another part of Spain that many tourists miss on the "Secret Coast" of Costa de la Luz. The region's mild winter climate makes it ideal for an October getaway. Top attractions include the Las Maravillas Grotto of underground lakes and the Iberian Ham Festival.

Mallorca

One of the more popular destinations in Spain, Mallorca has always been a bit hit with UK tourists. It'sIt's not hard to see why – the Balearic Island offers excellent beaches, hiking routes and the wonderful city of Palma.

Suppose you prefer your holiday experience to be a little wilder, and partying is more your thing. In that case, the somewhat-infamous resort town of Magaluf is sure to be of interest.

Madrid

If you're looking for a city break in October, then the Spanish capital is likely to be the perfect destination. Pop in and out of shops, frequent the bars and tapas spots or visit the beautiful parks to enjoy the city's vibrancy. Dia de España (the National Day of Spain) happens on 12 October, with parades and celebrations aplenty.

Lanzarote

A hugely popular destination for UK holidaymakers, the Spanish territory of the Canary Islands (off the coast of west Africa) has a considerable amount to offer, with Lanzarote being a superb example. With its incredible volcanic landscape, Lanzarote is astatically beautiful to behold. The desert-like climate means you could be looking at scorching temperatures of up to 27 degrees in October, making it one of the hottest places to visit.

Plenty of operators will offer all-inclusive packages for this time of year that will be more reasonable than over the summer.

If none of these has quite hit the spot for you, some other popular destinations that may also be worth checking out for an October break include Cantabria, Costa del Sol, Sitges, and Seville.
