Where to buy Covid tests in Scotland - check if you can get them for free as cases rise

Covid-19 is on the rise once more, meaning people are being encouraged to test for coronavirus. Free lateral flow tests are no longer available in the UK, except for certain people who meet the criteria, meaning it is up to the individual to source their own tests. Even people showing symptoms can't take a free PCR test.

If you're not feeling well, or if your'e planning to travel or attend a public function, it is wise to test for the virus However, if you are unsure of where to find a Covid-19 test , the Mirror has gathered some tips on how to get them

You can also check if you are entitled to get a free lateral flow or PCR test. Here is everything you need to know.

Can I get a free Covid test?

Some people can still get free rapid lateral flow tests if they meet the requirements., according to NHS Scotland.

PCR tests, which are taken to a lab for analysis are less likely to be used. You can get tests if:

1. You have a health condition which means you’re eligible for Covid-19 treatments - In this case you should receive a Covid-19 test to use if you have symptoms. You can order free NHS tests yourself, if you have not received any tests yet or have used the tests you've been sent.

2. You’re going into hospital - In these circumstances you may need to get tested if you're due to have surgery or a procedure. Check the letter your hospital has sent you to find out if you need to take a test or not.

3. You work in the NHS or in adult social care - You are eligible for free tests if you're:

  • NHS patient-facing staff
  • staff who deliver NHS services through an independent healthcare provider, and have direct contact with NHS patients
  • a social worker
  • a personal assistant
  • a Shared Lives carer
  • a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspector

Where can I buy a Covid test?

The price of a lateral flow test at the average high street pharmacy is £2 per test.

Boots pharmacy charge £2 for a LFT, £79 for a PCR test and £30 for an antigen testing service if you need a rapid test before setting off on holiday.

Check pharmacies in your area for services offered near you, and make sure to keep track of the NHS's most up-to-date guidance.
