Where Martin O'Neill needs 'help' at Celtic as recruitment issue laid bare

Jackie McNamara has told Celtic where Martin O'Neill will need help this season ahead of their Champions League qualifier.

The manager took the permanent role following the end of his interim stint and will be in charge for the coming campaign with a league title to defend.

It is expected to be a busy summer for the Hoops and their boss who will know he has a squad rebuild on his hands with loan stars departing and other big names - Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate - likely to exit.

McNamara feels Celtic will have to be tip top where recruitment is concerned and that O'Neill will need smart talent-spotters around him to help bring the right new faces to the club.

"I'm delighted he's staying on, there's no secret Martin's there to win, that's what he's good at. He got the best out of what he had at the end of the season there, got them over the line and there's not many people who could have done that," McNamara told Sky Sports.

"Now looking ahead to try and get into the Champions League group stages he needs a bit of help with recruitment and getting the right players in.

"You're hoping that (Cameron) Carter-Vickers and guys like that will be back, they've been a big loss for Celtic last year. Jota, don't know how far away he is.

"But there's no doubt they need reinforcements into the club."
