Jordan Larsson is set to be available as a free agent as the son of Celtic legend Henrik has his contract at Spartak Moscow ripped up. And he's previously admitted an emotional move to Celtic would be hard to turn down - even if following in his dad's footsteps would be a daunting task.
Larsson Jr was hot property at Spartak and netted an impressive 26 goals his first 62 appearances in Russia. But he was loaned out to AIK in April amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that he is set to leave the Moscow club on a free transfer.
It's claimed he's had multiple approaches already after finding his shooting boots again in Sweden and although it's unclear if Celtic are among them, he was linked with a switch to Glasgow back in 2020. Coming off the back of his first season in Russia, he admitted then it was "tempting" due to his dad's connection at Parkhead - although conceded it could be a hinderance as he looks to carve out his own name.
He said: “For me Celtic will always have a special place in my heart. Not that I’ve played there in that sense, but it was the first place where I saw football as a young kid going with my mother to see games when my father was playing.
"That’s where I have the biggest memories in my head: ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ you have all the scarves before the games and everything so of course it will always have a special place in my heart. But at the same time, since my father is who he is at the club, I think for me personally if I would ever have the chance to play there then I would like to establish myself even more, make my own name before I would play there. But of course it’s tempting.”
Celtic are well-stocked on the striker front with Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis set to battle it out for starts next season. A new midfielder is believed to be top of the agenda once deals for winger Jota and left-back Alexandro Bernabei are tied up.
