Queen Victoria was the only daughter of Edward, Duke of Kent, fourth son of George III.
She was made Queen after the passing of her father shortly after her birth.
As her three uncles had no legitimate children who survived of their own, she became heir to the throne.
During her reign the British monarch and her husband, Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, had nine children, through whose marriages were descended many of the royal families of Europe.
She passed away after a painless illness in 1901 at the age of 81, and was buried beside her husband in the mausoleum at Frogmore near Windsor.

Frogmore is set on 30 acres of private gardens within the grounds of the Home Park near Windsor.
It is called Frogmore due to the frogs which have always lived in the area, and is the site of three burial places of the British Royal Family.
The Royal Mausoleum is where Queen Victoria and her husband are buried.
Meanwhile, Queen Victoria's mother Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfed is buried in the Duchess of Kent’s Mausoleum, and is also situated in Frogmore Gardens.
Other royals buried at the Royal mausoleum
Three of Victoria and Albert’s children are buried also buried at the Royal mausoleum.
This includes Prince Arthur, Princess Louise, and Princess Helena, as well as their spouses and some of their children and grandchildren.
The last surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria, Princess Alice, was buried at Frogmore over 20 years ago at the age of 97.
Adjacent to the Royal Mausoleum is the Royal Burial Ground, where the Duke of Windsor, briefly known as Edward VIII before his abdication, is buried there alongside his wife, Wallis Simpson.
As for Queen Elizabeth II, her final resting place will be within the King George VI Memorial Chapel.
Here she will be beside her father King George, her mother Queen Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret.
In the upcoming days Prince Philip ’s coffin will be moved from the Royal Vault and placed alongside the others as the Queen’s coffin makes its final stop.
Queen Elizabeth II’s father King George VI was initially interred in the Royal Vault on 15 February 1952 but was reinterred in the chapel 17 years later, on 26 March 1969.
His consort, the long-lived Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, was buried alongside her husband on 9 April 2002, after her passing at the age of 101.
That same month, their younger daughter, Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, was interred in the chapel as well, having been cremated following her death on 9 February.
