Where is Naga Munchetty this morning and why is she not on BBC Breakfast?

Wondering where Naga Munchetty is this morning and why she's not sat on the BBC Breakfast sofa? Here's all we know as fans wonder if she's quit the show.

BBC Breakfast viewers have had to deal with a few changes to their favourite morning show over the last few years - with some beloved presenters departing for ventures new. Dan Walker announced he was quitting BBC Breakfast last year, following not long after the departure of longstanding TV host Louise Minchin. Whilst some familiar faces have left, the change up has made way for some new TV talent to step up - including Sally Nugent, Nina Warhurst, Hannah Miller and Jon Kay.

Now, after another absence from screens, BBC Breakfast fans are wondering where is Naga Munchetty this morning and why she's missing from the studio...

Where is Naga Munchetty this morning?

Naga Munchetty hasn't appeared on BBC Breakfast for a few days - she was absent yesterday (Thursday 20th April) and had Nina Warhurst sitting in for her on the red sofa and again today (Friday, 21st April) when she has been replaced by Rachel Burden. Whilst no official reason has been shared for her absence, we know that Naga is involved in a few other projects including BBC 5 Live and filming a new BBC One series Claimed and Shamed.

Naga usually hosts BBC Breakfast with Charlie Stayt on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Instead, Rachel Burden has taken her place on the sofa this morning alongside Charlie Stayt.

Rachel has been filling in during Naga's absence alongside business presenter Nina Warhurst but she tweeted yesterday to inform fans that she would be stepping in to cover Nina, it read, "That Nina Warhurst and I are doing a job swap tomorrow. She’s in jimjams behind the mic (BBC 5 Live), and I’m having to brush my hair for the sofa."

BBC Breakfast fans were previously happy to have Rachel filling in. One fan tweeted: "Bravo. I always say we need more of you on TV," whilst another said: "Nice to see you on the TV this morning".

And it's not the first time that Rachel, who usually presents the BBC Radio 5 live morning slot between 6 and 9am, has had to forgoe her regular radio job to fill in for Naga. It previously caused some upset amongst her radio fans. One listener tweeted: "Always great to see you but when you back on the bloody radio. This doesn’t work for me in the car."

Like Rachel, Naga Munchetty also hosts a BBC 5 Live radio show on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. She's usually on air for two hours from 11am.

Where is Naga Munchetty?

Naga Munchetty has been fairly quiet on social media during her absence too. The last time the TV and radio presenter posted on Instagram was on April 11, 2023 of her recent BBC Radio 5 Live interview.

And on Twitter it was more recently, just hours before the show when she retweeted a political story and one in recent days about the National Emergency alert from the Government.

Has Naga Munchetty left BBC Breakfast?

It is not thought that Naga Munchetty has left BBC Breakfast as no formal announcement has been made. Back in January 2022, Naga addressed her future on BBC Breakfast after being made a host of BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday's to Wednesday.

At the time she confirmed she will be continuing with her normal slot of Thursday to Saturday on the red sofa. 'Not leaving Breakfast - will be back on Thursday X,' she replied to one follower after sharing a snap of the inside her work bag.

It could well be that Naga is simply enjoying some days off to take part in a spot of golf as she is a self-confessed 'slightly-obsessed golfer'.

In March last year BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were replaced following a joke about the union flag and Queen's Elizabeth's portrait in the background of an interview with MP Robert Jenrick. They were forced to apologise for liking a joke tweet about flags.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
