Where is Good Karma Hospital filmed? Sri Lanka locations used for the hit ITV show

ITV 's Good Karma Hospital is back for a fourth season, complete with the return of Amanda Redman, Neil Morrissey, Amrita Acharia, Darshan Jariwala and Nimmi Harasgama.

However, it's not just the beloved characters and gripping plots that have been catching viewers' attention; the breathtaking beaches and tropical scenery are giving us a major dose of wanderlust.

Although the show is set in Kerala, India, it's not actually filmed there - but it is filmed on location in an equally hot and sunny hotspot.

That's because the cast and crew head to Sri Lanka to film the series, specifically in the Galle District.

The picturesque coastal town of Unawatuna is the main location, alhough there have been some scenes shot at the likes of Colombo .

Of course it's not difficult to see why Unawatuna caught the production team's attention.

It's long been a firm favourite with tourists thanks to stretches of golden sandy beaches, lush green vegetation, and awe-inspiring coral reefs that are filled with all manner of marine life, making them popular with snorkellers and divers.

In fact, Unawatuna Beach is one of our top picks of Sri Lanka's most amazing places to have on the bucket list. (We've also got a guide to the country's best beaches if you're after a bit more holiday dreaming).

Neil Morrissey, who plays Greg McConnell in the series, previously spoke about his experience of filming on location in the area.

He told RadioTimes : "At the southern tip of Sri Lanka, the beach is beautiful during the day and has everything: sun, sea, great surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving.

"But in the evening, it really comes alive: outside every restaurant there’s a table with mountains of fresh fish, prawns, squid – the best tuna I’ve ever eaten. And if you venture behind the beach into the hustle of the town you can find The Good Karma Hospital, although when we’re not filming it’s actually a teacher training college."

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka is open to UK travellers although its entry requirements differ depending on your Covid vaccination status. You can find out more in the Foreign Office's latest Sri Lanka travel advice.

If you are considering a Sri Lanka holiday, there are plenty of package holiday options.
