Where is Anna Duggar now that her husband, disgraced reality TV star Josh Duggar, is serving over 12 years in prison? Her whereabouts, and that of their seven children, are still debatable.
Questions about her living situation arose in the wake of Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, a new docu-series that hit Prime Video on Friday, June 2. The project tackles everything from the family's conservative religion, The Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), to Josh's multiple scandals.
Given the shocking reveals throughout the doc, viewers are curious if Anna is laying low in the wake of the attention—and, if so, where exactly?
Where is Anna Duggar now?
The stay-at-home mom previously lived in a warehouse on the Duggar compound in Arkansas, according to multiple sources.
However, in 2022, news broke that Anna's sister and brother-in-law allegedly purchased a single-family home in Texas, as well as .05 acres of land, per The Sun. The homes are a two-hour drive from FCI Seagoville, where Josh Duggar is currently serving his sentence, in comparison to a six-plus hour drive from Arkansas. Given the proximity, some sources believe that Anna is bringing her children closer to their father, though he is not legally allowed to see them unless they're with Anna, Josh's parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar or a court-appointed official, per Page Six.
Although we don't get a specific answer about Anna Duggar's current location in Shiny Happy People, we do learn that Anna has stood by her husband's side throughout each of his scandals, and due to her strict beliefs, divorce is not an option. Judging from the Duggar Family Instagram page, Josh and Anna have been featured less and less throughout the years as the turbulence unfolded.
What did Josh Duggar do?
In 2015, news broke that Josh Duggar had molested underage children as a teenager, several of whom were his own siblings. Despite the turmoil, Anna stayed with her spouse as he sought professional help.
“He continued to do what he was taught. [I know] who Josh really is—someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended,” Anna told People in 2015. “Someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right.”
Josh Duggar admitted to cheating on his wife, whom he married in 2008 at the age of 20, as well as to using pornography, a no-no in his strict religion. Though he didn't receive punishment for these actions, ultimately, Josh was found guilty of possessing and receiving child pornography in 2022. Homeland Security special agent Gerald Faulkner called some of the pictures on Duggar’s computer “in the top five of the worst of the worst that I’ve ever had to examine” while in court, according to Page Six."
It's arguably a stressful time to be a Duggar, but Jim Bob and Michelle are seemingly trudging on. On Thursday, June 1, before the doc's premiere, they released a statement on the Duggar Family website, alleging that the documentary hurt those they love.
“The recent 'documentary' that talks about our family is sad because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions hurting people we love. Like other families, ours too has experienced the joys and heartbreaks of life, just in a very public format. This 'documentary' paints so much and so many in a derogatory and sensationalized way because sadly that’s the direction of entertainment these days," part of the statement read.
