Conference realignment has completely shifted the landscape of college sports everywhere. It’s hard to know exactly who plays where now. That’s especially the case today following the report about the ACC extending invitations out to Cal, Stanford and SMU.
So, in the spirit of trying to keep up, I’ve listed all the teams in the Power-5 (4?) conferences and where they’ll be playing.
Newcomers will have the year they’re officially joining the conference in parenthesis.
The ACC
The ACC is adding Cal, Stanford and SMU to their pool of teams starting in 2024.
The complete conference: California (2024), Stanford (2024), SMU (2024), NC State, Duke, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Notre Dame.
The SEC
The SEC is adding two powerhouses in Texas and Oklahoma to its conference starting in 2024. At least the Red River rivalry will survive.
The complete conference: Texas (2024), Oklahoma (2024), Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida.
The Big Ten
The conference that was once so centered in the midwest is looking extremely coastal these days with the additions of Oregon, UCLA, Washington and USC starting in 2024.
The complete conference: Oregon (2024), UCLA (2024), Washington (2024), USC (2024), Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State,
The Big 12
The Big 12 is losing Texas and Oklahoma but they’re adding plenty of other schools to their pool including Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.
The complete conference: BYU (2023), Cincinnati (2023), Houston (2023), UCF (2023), Arizona (2024), Arizona State (2024), Colorado (2024), Iowa State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, TCU, Texas Tech, Kansas, West Virginia, Baylor, Oklahoma State.
The Pac-12
The future of the Pac-12 is absolutely in jeopardy. The conference is done. After this season there will only be two teams left and it’s hard to know what the next move will be.
Do those teams leave? Will the Pac-12 be able to convince other schools to join its ranks? We’ll find out. In the meantime, things look bleak in 2024.
The complete conference: Oregon State, Washington State.
Yes, that’s really it.
