With their win on Sunday over the Miami Dolphins, the Indianapolis Colts are now 4-3 on the season and above .500 for the first time.
So, in this week’s iteration of ESPN’s power rankings, where do the Colts end up?
The Colts entered the 2024 season at No. 18 on this list and have been as low as No. 28 following an 0-2 start, along with just about everywhere in between.
This week the Colts are No. 20, which is actually a spot lower than where they were at this time a week ago. Despite the win–their second in a row–apparently, style points are a part of ESPN’s equation because it wasn’t all that pretty.
Determining these rankings for ESPN are more than 80 writers, editors, and TV personalities evaluating each team’s performance and then ranking them from 1-32.
Although the Dolphins were without Tua Tagovailoa again, the Indianapolis defense did its job in this matchup. While the Miami run game would find some success, the Dolphins scored just 10 points, averaged 5.0 yards per play, while Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle combined for only 19 receiving yards.
In addition to all of that, the Colts defense forced two takeaways, one of which led to a touchdown for the Indianapolis offense while the other took points off the board with the Dolphins in the red zone.
The offense, however, would sputter in this matchup. The positive was that the return of Anthony Richardson provided a boost to the run game, but everything about the passing game was disjointed, which not only falls on the players but on Shane Steichen as well for the gameplan.
At 4-3, the Colts are only a game back of the Texans in the AFC South race and will face Houston this Sunday. The Texans are currently No. 7 in ESPN’s power rankings.
