The soccer ball with which Diego Maradona scored two of the most famous goals in the long history of the game has been sold at auction for $3.35 million, falling some way short of its valuation and the record for sports memorabilia.
Heritage Auctions boasted that the adidas Azteca ball used in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal between Argentina and England was “the most famous ball in the history” of any sport, predicting a swollen return of $10 million.
