Where are the Defenders in Daredevil: Born Again season 2?

Netflix's The Defenders.

Seven years later, Jessica Jones is finally back on the small screen thanks to Daredevil: Born Again season 2. As we return to Hell's Kitchen for another round of the Man Without Fear versus Kingpin, he's been joined by a familiar face, as Krysten Ritter's acerbic investigator makes her MCU debut.

But now that Jessica Jones and Daredevil are teaming up again for the first time in almost a decade, it begs the question: where are the rest of the Defenders? If Jessica is back, is it only a matter of time before Luke Cage and Iron Fist join her? Well, many, if not all, signs point to yes...

We've got everything you need to know about the Defenders in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 (and beyond) right here, which should answer any burning questions.

Jessica Jones and her trademark leather jacket finally appeared in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 6.

We haven't seen the sharp-tongued superhero turned PI since her Netflix show was cancelled after three seasons in 2019, and it seems like her life has changed quite a lot in the meantime – or as much as a Defender's life can ever really change. Her new quiet life in the suburbs with her young daughter is disrupted by an attack from Mr. Charles' men, which brings her back to New York City to join forces with Daredevil against him and Fisk.

"What's really fun about that character is the time jump from the last time we saw her. It's been a while," Marvel boss Brad Winderbaum said earlier this year "So, we're re-establishing this character and catching the audience up to what the hell she's been up to, and that is filled with a lot of very cool surprises."

So, Jessica Jones' involvement is a sure thing, but what about the other Defenders? Luke Cage and Iron Fist haven't made any appearances in the MCU since their respective Netflix shows were cancelled in 2018, but could they be about to follow their fellow Defender back into Hell's Kitchen?

Well, anything is possible, but their involvement hasn't been confirmed ahead of release. So, it's looking fairly unlikely, considering the number of leaked set photos coming out of New York during production, but there have been plenty of rumors.

Luke Cage actor Mike Colter has even fanned the flames himself, saying, "Listen, I will say this, I've had conversations... and I'll leave it at that. Because when it wrapped... y'know I loved playing Luke Cage but I love acting and doing different things. So I just was like, 'I'll do something else.' I love the fans and I love that world. And it's been years now. So now, I'm doing other projects, but now I think to myself 'I have some unfinished business there.'"

If nothing else, Luke Cage will definitely be in season 3, as Colter posted a now-deleted selfie from the set of the third installment with co-stars Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll. Plus, Iron Fist star Finn Jones has also been spotted behind the scenes. A full Defenders reunion is on the cards next season, then, it seems.

While he's not a Defender, Ritter and Colter's Netflix-verse co-star Jon Bernthal won't be back as Punisher for season 2. That's because he's got his own Punisher TV special, which is coming to Disney Plus in May.
