When will Storm Eunice be over? Winds set to drop on Friday but pick up again on Sunday

Storm Eunice will continue to bring severe winds to the North East on Friday, although the conditions in the region are not set to be as drastic as in the south, where a red "danger to life" warning is in place.

There are yellow weather warnings for wind and snow which cover Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne & Wear, which mean "low level impact" and disruption are expected.

An amber warning - which means an increased chance of a severe impact - is active in the Midlands, Wales and much of Southern England on Friday, while the South East, parts of the South Coast, London and much of the West Country are subject to red " risk to life " warnings.

The Met Office says the worst of the storm should be over by Friday evening, although strong winds will return in the North East this weekend and another weather warning has been announced for Sunday.

When will Storm Eunice end?

It depends on what part of the country you are in, but in general, Storm Eunice is set to calm down from Friday evening and should be over by Saturday afternoon.

The yellow weather warnings in place for wind and snow in the North East expire at 6pm on Friday, although another warning, for ice, has been announced for County Durham and Northumberland for Friday evening and Saturday morning.

In Newcastle, rain is forecast from 1pm on Friday and through to the early evening, with the heaviest spells set for 1pm to 2pm and 3pm to 5pm.

Wind gusts will approach 50mph in the mid-afternoon, dropping to a maximum of around 30mph by 9pm.

The worst of Storm Eunice should be over by Friday night as it moves on, although a yellow warning for ice will be in place in Northumberland and County Durham from Friday evening through until 9am on Saturday morning.

"It's not really until the evening that the severest of winds start to calm down," said Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern in Friday's Storm Eunice forecast.

The rain should ease off by around 9pm on Friday, the Met Office says, although gusts of more than 30mph will persist throughout the evening and gain speed early on Saturday morning. A yellow warning for ice will be in place from 6pm on Friday until 9am on Saturday in County Durham and Northumberland.

The wind speeds are due to ease off by around 8am on Saturday, after which "sunny intervals" are forecast with a less than 5% chance of rain for most of Saturday.

Elsewhere, the amber warning for midlands, Wales and much of south England expires at 9pm on Friday. The London area red warning expires at 3pm, and the West Country's at noon.

A Storm Eunice wind warning is in place on the South Coast of England and Wales from 6am to 6pm on Saturday.

Sunday is set to be blustery and wet. A yellow warning for rain kicks in at 12am on Sunday, which is set to stay in place until 6pm. Wind speeds of more than 40mph are forecast in Newcastle from Sunday afternoon. Snow is forecast on Sunday too in higher-up areas, like Cheviot Hills in Northumberland and Mickle Fell in Durham, where wind speeds are set to top 60mph.
