Disney and Pixar have announced when the hit Buzz Lightyear-inspired film will be released on Disney Plus. Around a month-and-a-half on from debuting in UK cinemas, Lightyear will be available to stream on August 3.
Since first hitting the big screen in mid-June, the Toy Story spin-off has already grossed over $200 million, being met with mixed reviews. On the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, critics’ ratings have averaged 75% while the audience has been more generous, generating a score of 84%.
It has become standard practice for Disney to stream their films just six to seven weeks after their theatrical releases. Lightyear is no different as Wednesday August 3 will be 47 days on from the first cinemagoers experiences.

What is Lightyear about and who is in the voice cast?
Based on the popular animated series Toy Story, Lightyear delves into the character of Buzz in a true sci-fi action-packed adventure. However, it does not take place in the same fictional universe as the original four films, where Buzz Lightyear is a plastic toy.
The definitive origin story follows the legendary space ranger as he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth. Along the way on his quest to find a way back home, Buzz encounters a group of unusual creatures, all while trying to evade the evil Zurg’s clutches.
Chris Evans, well-known for his portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was the man tasked with voicing Buzz, replacing Tim Allen whose voice became synonymous with the character in the original series. The title character’s best friend and commander Alisha Hawthorne is voiced by Uzo Aduba while Alisha’s granddaughter, Izzy Hawthorne, is portrayed by Keke Palmer.
Taika Waititi plays Mo Morrison, Dale Soules represents Darby Steel and Mary McDonald-Lewis is the voice for onboard computer I.V.A.N.. Isiah Whitlock Jr, Efren Ramirez and Keira Hairston also feature in the cast, while renowned astronaut Tim Peak appears in an uncredited cameo as a worker at the mission control centre.
