Greater Manchester has been warned to expect heavy snow across the region this week as temperatures reach near-freezing levels.
In the latter half of the week, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for 'heavy snow' across Greater Manchester. Meteorologists have warned that the heavy snow could cause significant disruption to travel and the operation of public services.
This could result in delayed or cancelled buses and trains while some roads may be blocked by deep snow. The current weather warning also covers large parts of the North West including Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, and Bradford.

The yellow warning will be in effect from 3am on Thursday, March 9 to 6pm on Friday, March 10, with the majority of Northern England seeing snow on Thursday morning and evening.

Weather forecast for Greater Manchester on Thursday
Temperatures will be extremely cold on Thursday as temperatures reach as low as 1C, however, the 'feels like' temperatures will be far colder at -3C in the morning. This will be accompanied by moderately high winds reaching as high as 28mph.
According to early forecasts, light snow is predicted to begin falling from 9am in the morning and will slowly become more severe with heavy snow predicted at 12pm. By the evening, light showers are expected to fall with temperatures slowly increasing into Friday morning.
The Met Office said: "A risk of disruption on Thursday as a band of rain and snow, accompanied by strong winds moves northwards. Sleet and snow clears Friday and turning less cold by Saturday."
Weather forecast for Greater Manchester on Friday
By Friday morning, temperatures will have increased slightly, peaking at 5C with a 'feels like' temperature reaching as low as 0C. For now, it is not expected snow will fall across Manchester, however, with a chance of some snow in the afternoon for Rochdale and Oldham. Much of the region will likely see overcast skies and light rain through the day, though.
Wind speeds will also be relatively mild compared to Thursday, reaching a peak of 23 mph before settling to 17mph in the evening.
