When is the US Open and who are the seeded players?

AP

The US Open returns with the top tennis players in the world ready to contest the year’s final grand slam.

Flushing Meadows again hosts the hard court tournaments, with Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek out to defend their titles.

Alcaraz could face another encounter with Novak Djokovic after the pair’s thrilling duel in the Wimbledon final, with the Serb back in New York after missing last year’s event.

But the US Open can often spring a surprise, and plenty of individuals in both the men’s and women’s singles fields will hope to challenge.
