We’re in the final month of summer, which means one thing, it’s almost time to join the next series of bakers in the iconic Great British Bake Off.

The show has become a national staple in the TV schedule, with judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood coming together to put the pressure on a group of aspiring bakers.

Last year, Italian-born Giuseppe won the grand prize after wowing the judges with his impressive spread for the Mad Hatters Tea Party with the runners-up being Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira.

On winning the show, Giuseppe said: "There are no words, I am speechless for once. All I can think of is the reaction from my mum and dad. The fact is that everything I have done to deserve this comes from his heritage, it’s the best thank you note I can possibly send him.”

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering when we can get our next cake baking fix. But when does the next series air? Luckily, details are starting to trickle through, so here’s what we know so far.

When is the Great British Bake Off 2022?

Currently, a release date for the show hasn’t been confirmed. However, the Cinemaholic reported that sources have said there will be 12 episodes filmed between April and August 2022. That could potentially mean that new episodes will air in September 2022.

Who will be competing?

The Great British Bake Off is still in the process of choosing its series 13 competitors, so nothing has been made official just yet. Staff on the show take months to go through applications, sending out acceptances to bakers who made it to the next round on March 4, 2022, according to the casting website.

Who will be presenting the show?

It’s expected that award-winning comedian Noel Fielding and actor Matt Lucas will return for the 13th series of the show. The pair have been hosting together since 2020.

Fielding performs stand-up and has guest-starred on "The IT Crowd". While you might have spotted Lucas on stage in Tim Burton’s adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland."

What channel will the show be on?

It has been confirmed that The Great British Bake Off will air on Channel 4. In fact, they have renewed it for three more seasons.

It will also be available on Channel 4’s catch up service, All 4.

In a statement, Richard McKerrow, chief executive at Love Productions, said: ‘We are delighted to have extended Bake Off’s stay on Channel 4 for another three years.

‘Love Productions’ long-term commitment with Channel 4 illustrates a deep, warm, mutual respect and partnership which enables us to bring Bake Off to the widest audience possible.”

Ian Katz, chief content officer at Channel 4, added: ‘We are thrilled that Channel 4 will continue to serve up Bake Off’s unique combination of warmth, humour and soggy bottoms for years to come.

‘Bake Off is all about optimism, celebrating eccentricity and bringing the nation together – precisely what a publicly owned Channel 4 is here to do.’
