When is Red Nose Day 2022? Date for Comic Relief campaign confirmed

Comic Relief's Red Nose Day is fast approaching with a date confirmed for 2022.

The charity event, which launched in 1988, raises money for brilliant causes in the UK and around the world.

Red Nose Day is a Comic Relief highlight and features a BBC telethon full of laughter, fundraising stories and sketches.

This year brand new red nose characters are being released, including a rare one called Cam the chameleon.

Comic Relief co-founder, Sir Lenny Henry, said: "The spirit of Red Nose Day is for everyone to get involved and to get the vibe of helping someone else that they don't know, it's always been that and what could be better?

"I've been inspired by so many people and it's usually members of the public who do extraordinary things. I'm always amazed by how dedicated and passionate the people that run the projects are - both in the developing world and in this country – to help better the lives of so many.

"So, to anybody who has fundraised to support these life-changing projects, I personally thank you because we wouldn't be able to do this stuff without you guys. You are the people that inspire me."

Here's what you need to know.

When is Red Nose Day 2022?

Red Nose Day will take place on Friday, March 18 this year.

Previously Red Nose Day has occurred every other year but has now become an annual event.

It will be marked by a televised fundraiser on the BBC, which is set to be presented by David Tennant, Paddy McGuinness, Sir Lenny Henry and Zoe Ball.

While all the details are yet to be released, Comic Relief has confirmed the return of The One Show's The Red Nose and Spoon race, which is set to be tougher than ever and with two brand new team captains.

Celebrities are also set to compete in the iconic Glow Up studios to become Britain's First Celeb Make Up Star in a one-off Red Nose Day special hosted by Maya Jama.

Meanwhile, Tim Vine and Kiri Pritchard-McLean will attempt sheep dog training for Countryfile.
