For the first time since 1962, two first-time Grand Slam finalists meet in the Wimbledon women’s singles final.
Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur get their first chance to win one of tennis’ biggest prize, having seen off some of their more experienced counterparts.
For Rybakina, this is just her second main-draw appearance at SW19 but she has quickly made herself at home. The 23-year-old, born in Moscow but representing Kazakhstan, has powered her way past the likes of Simona Halep and Ajla Tomljanovic to reach the final.
World number two Jabeur reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals 12 months ago and is now the first African woman to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open Era. She beat close friend Tatjana Maria in the semi-finals.

Rybakina won the first match between the two in 2019 when she came out on top in Wuhan after a three-set battle. Jabeur needed three sets herself in 2021 to win in Dubai, before Rybakina retired when a set down in Chicago at the end of the year.

Jabeur is the favourite and that seems fair - the Tunisian has more ways to win this match. For Rybakina it’s a case of establishing her huge groundstrokes and being as solid as ever behind the serve, while Jabeur is able to bring a bit more variety to the match.
While Rybakina was sensational in the semi-finals, the edge is just given to Jabeur who has dropped a set in each of her last two matches but then responded superbly.
She looks to have the stronger all-round game, and Rybakina may find it more difficult to swing freely on the biggest of stages.
