Leigh Wood is aiming to win back the WBA Featherweight title in his rematch with Mauricio Lara on Saturday.
The 34-year-old recorded two statement wins over Xu Can and Michael Conlan, prior to his first meeting with Lara in February. After twice fighting for a version of a world title, Wood was made the full champion ahead of the Lara fight but fell to a seventh round stoppage.
Lara proved to be a tough test for the Nottinghamshire hero, having twice shown his class against Josh Warrington previously, and it was the young Mexican who emerged victorious. However, Wood has overcame the odds before and will hope for more of the same in Manchester.
