When is King Charles III's birthday – and will he have two every year like the Queen?

Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed a unique perk of celebrating two birthdays every year – one in April and another in June.

The late monarch was actually born on April 21, 1926, but her official birthday celebration always took place on the second Saturday of June, this year marking 70 years of her on the throne with spectacular Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The tradition of monarchs having two birthdays is a 250-year-old royal tradition.

King Charles III, who has ascended the throne after the Queen's passing, will be celebrating his 74th birthday in November. Will he also have two birthdays and when will they be? Here's what you need to know.

Will King Charles III have two birthdays?

While it hasn't been confirmed whether King Charles III will have a second birthday, it's very likely that he will continue the royal tradition which has been upheld since 1748.

The first royal ruler to have two birthday celebrations was the Queen Elizabeth II's relative, King George II, who wished to have a grand public celebration to mark his birthday.

However, during Edward VII's reign the monarch who was born in November – much like King Charles II – decided to use the the UK’s annual military parade held in the summer as his official birthday celebration.

This meant that the monarch celebrated his birthday twice, once publicly in the summer and another privately for his actual birthday in November.

Upholding the tradition, King Charles III, who was born on November 14 1948, is also likely to celebrate his birthday twice. Once on his actual birthday and then publicly at Trooping The Colour in June.

It's likely that he will celebrate his 74th birthday in November and then his second birthday in June 2023.

However, it has also been reported that the new monarch may opt for a 'slimmed down' version following a desire to scale back some of the pageantry of Royal occasions.

The parade moves from Buckingham Palace and down The Mall to Horse Guard's Parade, closing with the famous RAF fly-past, which Royal Family members watch from Buckingham Palace balcony.
