The summer holidays might be just around the corner, but students who sat their GCSEs this year will be facing an anxious wait for their results. Schools have faced a challenging few years with learning disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Last year's exams didn't take place and instead results were evidence-based and determined by teachers. Educators submitted grades for the more than half a million pupils on GCSE courses in 2021, using evidence such as mock exams, course work and tests, reports the BBC.
It will be the first time in two years that students have sat their GCSE exams. A package of support was put in place by regulator Ofqual to make sure they "are being as fair as possible to students given the disruption they have experienced, and many continue to face, due to the coronavirus pandemic."

Some of the changes included more generous grading, a choice of topics on which students must answer questions on in exams and a 'generosity for students' when setting grade boundaries.
Unlike the following two years, students will be able to pick their results up from school in person.
GCSE results will be released on Thursday August 25 2022 and are usually available from 8am.
