What date is Black Friday 2025?

Black Friday 2025 was yesterday – Friday 28 November. The date changes each year, but it's always the fourth Friday of November, which is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States.

This year's Black Friday trends

Consumer caution may have meant better Black Friday deals in 2025. Retail sales growth in the UK slowed at the start of November, according to The Guardian, and this prompted some UK retailers to offer more compelling early deals in a bid to capture cautious spenders.

When is Cyber Monday 2025?

Cyber Monday falls on Monday, 1 December 20205. It follows Black Friday weekend and remains a major online shopping day, particularly for tech, small appliances, and 'last chance' deals.

Tips to get the best Black Friday deals

  • Make a wishlist of what you're shopping for so you don't get overwhelmed.
  • Set a budget to avoid overspending – but allow for an impulse buy or two.
  • Sign up for retailer newsletters for priority access to sales.
  • Bookmark trusted sites for reliable deals and the latest discounts.
  • Shop early: stock isn't finite, so the best offers usually sell out fast.

When does Black Friday end?

Black Friday ended at 11:59pm on Friday 28 November 2025. However, many retailers will run sales throughout the weekend until Cyber Monday (1st December), which marks the final day of sale season. Some stores (usually tech specialists) extend promotions even further into Cyber Week, which runs until 5th December. But if you find a great offer, don’t wait - popular products and tech deals sell out fast, and there’s no guarantee that items will still be in stock by Cyber Monday if you wait.

How often is Black Friday?

Black Friday happens once a year, in November. The date changes every year because Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, which takes place in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November.

Why is Black Friday called Black Friday?

The term originates from the 1950s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving drew crowds of shoppers and football fans into the city, causing traffic jams and long working hours for law enforcement, who began referring to the chaos as 'Black Friday.'

By the late 1980s, retailers had redefined the term, linking it to the point in the year when businesses went from being 'in the red' (operating at a loss) to 'in the black' (turning a profit) thanks to a surge in holiday shopping activity immediately after Thanksgiving.
