Jordan Henderson is hoping Liverpool can use their previous Community Shield heartbreak to claim the trophy for the first time since 2006 by beating Manchester City on Saturday evening.
Henderson has lifted six trophies during his seven-year stint as captain, including the Premier League and Champions League, but has failed to get his hands on the Community Shield as Jurgen Klopp' s side have tasted defeat to both Manchester City in 2019 and Arsenal in 2020. Which will be used as extra motivation to the Reds come Saturday evening, according to the 31-year-old.
“It’s another chance to win silverware and we haven’t won it before,” Henderson said while speaking Liverpoolfc.com. “So of course we want to go there and we want to win the game and we want to win the trophy."

It was because of the Reds' dramatic FA Cup triumph against Chelsea in May that they secured their place in Saturday's domestic curtain-raiser at the King Power Stadium, with the fixture being switched from Wembley due to the final of the women's European Championships on Sunday evening.
Saturday's encounter with the Premier League champions will no doubt be the first of a string of heavyweight battles between the two sides this term as Klopp's men look to gain an early one-up on Pep Guardiola's men after having the title snatched away from them during the final minutes of the season after the Citizens' dramatic comeback against Aston Villa.
Having spent a week at the start of July touring Bangkok and Singapore, in what was their first pre-season tour since 2019, Henderson and his teammates. have taken to the familiar surroundings of Salzburg for the past five days as they gear up for the test of City and the upcoming Premier League season.
“We look in good shape, so hopefully come Saturday we’re raring to go and we can get the result we want against City," Henderson added.
“It’ll be a really interesting game for sure. I’m sure everybody is looking forward to it. We’ve had a decent break, so players, fans, everyone will be looking forward to the game.
“We have pushed each other, challenged each other and the levels we’ve got to have been amazing really. When I think about it, they have probably pipped us to a few more than what we’d have liked. but for us it’s just about concentrating on what we can control, and that’s our performances, our results, and hopefully this season we can have another good season again.”
