Gaslit will tell the untold story of the Watergate scandal and focuses on lesser-known figures involved which led to President Richard Nixon’s downfall.
The Watergate scandal was a major political event which took place during and after the 1972 presidential election. The Washington Post, a major newspaper in America, reported that Republican Richard Nixon, who was running for president against Democrat George McGovern, was behind the break-in into the offices of the Democratic Party months before the election.
They listened to phone lines and secret papers were stolen. Nixon lost the trust of the public because of the scandal and therefore resigned in 1974.

Gaslit follows Martha Mitchell (Julia Roberts) the outspoken and controversial wife of Nixon’s Attorney General John N Mitchell (Sean Penn), as well as John Dean (Dan Stevens), a member of the White House counsel who testified against the administration.

Gaslit will premiere this Sunday on April 24. Episodes will be available to stream on StarzPlay weekly.
Roberts, Penn and Stevens are joined by Betty Gilpin, Shea Whigham, Darby Camp, Aleksandar Filimonović, Allison Tolman, JC Mackenzie and many other acting talents.
Gaslit (which means to doubt someone’s sanity with psychological manipulation) follows Martha Mitchell, the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, causing both the Presidency and her personal life to unravel.
Her husband, the Attorney General John Mitchell, is Nixon’s best friend and trusted advisor. As a result of Martha’s statements he is forced to choose between his wife and the President.
