When does Love Island 2022 start and what are the rules for the new series?

Love Island is back for its eighth series and viewers may notice a fair few changes to the show.

The ITV2 dating programme will take place at a new villa after moving locations on the Spanish island of Majorca. The first coupling on the upcoming series of Love Island will also be decided by viewers in a major shake-up.

The starting line-up includes former England striker Michael Owen's daughter Gemma and dancer Tasha Ghouri, who has a cochlear implant and is the show's first deaf contestant.

When does Love Island 2022 start?

Love Island launches on ITV2 on June 6 at 9pm. The first episode will air for one hour and 35 minutes.

Love Island rules for contestants

No official changes to the rules have been made, however, as per last year's series, it is expected there will be a number of coronavirus guidelines to help keep the cast and crew safe. Previously, rules have been in place regarding smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol and having sex in the villa.

A spokesman for the show told the Star there is "a strict briefing for all islanders regarding acceptable behaviour before they go in".

Sex

A Love Island spokesperson said there are "strict guidelines on sexual behaviour in the villa" and "constant monitoring of islander behaviour once in the villa".

Alcohol

Contestants' alcohol intake is limited inside the villa.

Smoking

Following a string of complaints after the 2017 series, Radio Times reports that ITV took the decision to ban cigarettes on the screen.

If a contestant wanted to smoke, they have to exit the villa and go to a designated smoking area alone.

Nudity

Contestants are not allowed to be totally naked in front of any of the other islanders due to the villa being classed as a 'public place'.

According to the Mirror, Islanders can't be nude even in the bathroom.
