When did the Yankees and Mets play in the World Series against each other? Here’s the answer.

The New York Yankees have both advanced to the ALCS and the New York Mets have advanced to the NLCS. Could they meet in the World Series?

The Yankees last won the World Series in 2009 and the Mets have not won since 1986. The Yankees have not won the ALCS win then while the Mets won the NLCS in 2015.

But just how rare is it for these two teams actually play in the World Series against each other as crosstown rivals? It is incredibly uncommon and has only once, occurring in 2000.

The Yankees won the series, 4-1, and Derek Jeter was named MVP.

It was a very different time in America as the New York rivals took the field. The most popular songs were by Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Creed, and 3 Doors Down. Meanwhile, the most popular movies were Meet The Parents, Remember The Titans, The Exorcist, and Almost Famous.

Two decades later, history could repeat itself once again in New York City.
