When are the party conferences 2024? Liberal Democrats, Labour and Conservatives to hold annual events

Party conference season has kicked off in the UK, meaning there are a bunch of political events coming up.

Labour, Lib Dems, Tories, and other parties will host annual conferences around the country during September and October.

The conferences are often a chance for party members and voters to connect and learn more about their future plans.

It comes while the House of Commons is in recess, which will last until October 6, when the politicians return.

The Green party and SNP have already concluded their events this month, setting a precedent for this year’s speeches, celebrations, and panel discussions.

So when are the UK’s main parties coming together, and where? Here’s what you need to know.

When is the Lib Dem Party conference?

The Liberal Democrats' autumn conference will be held from September 14 to September 17 at the Brighton Centre and The Grand Hotel.

There will be live Q&As, debates, panel discussions, meetings, and training opportunities for everyone involved.

According to the Lib Dem website: “Conference is where our party makes decisions. Every member has an equal right to attend, an equal say and an equal voice. Whatever you want out of your membership, there's something for everyone happening at Conference.”

There are various tickets available, but standard and returning party members will have to pay £120 to access the full event.

When is the Labour Party conference?

The Labour Party conference will take place in Liverpool between Sunday, 22 September and Wednesday, 25 September at the ACC, ECL, and the Pullman Hotel.

As per the Labour Party rule book: “The work of the Party shall be under the direction and control of Party conference, which shall itself be subject to the constitution and standing orders of the Party.”

This means that Labour’s upcoming conference is particularly significant, as it will shape binding agreements about the party's future positioning.

During the event, constituency delegates, trade unions, and society representatives can vote on policies and motions shaping the party for the coming year.

There will also be keynote speeches from senior Labour figures and plenty of fringe events to get involved with - as well as a karaoke night.

Last year, the conference welcomed over 17,000 visitors, and this year, it could be even bigger. Most tickets have already sold out.

When is the Conservative Party conference?

Unlike other parties, the Tories don’t vote on policies at their party conference.

This year’s event will take place in Birmingham from September 29 to October 2 at the ICC Birmingham and the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The conference agenda is yet to be released, but visitors should expect to know what’s happening during the conference by early September.

Standard tickets for party members cost £242, but ticketing options vary depending on the type of attendee.
