When are Ryanair striking, and will my flight be affected? - all you need to know

Unprecedented chaos has unfolded at airports around the world, with lengthy queues for those arriving at terminals and mass cancellations ruining the prospect of a hard-earned break for many jetsetters entirely.

With flight providers and holiday makers struggling to meet the demand of customers on a worldwide level, experts predict that holidays could in fact be jeopardised for the next two years or so.

Ryanair is the latest company to announce it will be holding strike action, after buckling under the increased demand - only adding to the disruption further alongside TUI, easyJet and British Airways who have all recently been forced to cancel flights of their own completely.

And with many who have booked their travels through the Irish-founded flight provider wondering if their prospects of a sunny holiday will be ruined, here at Chronicle Live, we thought we would give some clarity on whether your flight will be affected.

Why are Ryanair staff going on strike?

It is said that staff at Ryanair are striking as they are discontent with working conditions and staff pay, and are hoping for an uplift in both. With no progress made by the time of the strikes, unions USO and SITCPLA have said that staff will be left with 'no other option' than to walk from their duties.

This comes at a time in which travel has seen an increased demand following the global Coronavirus pandemic, which put a halt to domestic and international travel.

Bloomberg reports that this news comes after Ryanair allegedly walked away from talks with both unions on Tuesday (14 June).

When are Ryanair striking?

According to The Mirror, cabin crew and staff at Ryanair plan hold two separate three-day strikes on June 24, 25, 26 and 30 and on July 1 and 2.

Which flights will be affected?

Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it is predicted that the strikes could directly affect flights in the UK to and from Spain.

You can check if your flight will be affected by the action by using Ryanair’s online flight tracker here, by providing your carrier, flight number and departure date.

Those affected are told that they will receive and email or text message notification from Ryanair directly.
