It is safe to say that Newcastle United fans will be anticipating the 22/23 Premier League season far more than they did the 21/22 season. In fact, there's more optimism around a new season than there has been for many, many years, thanks to the club's takeover by Amanda Staveley and the Saudi Arabian PIF Fund and the way Eddie Howe's team finished the season so strongly.
For the first time in a long time, Magpies fans will dream of a season where they can push up the table and maybe even compete for a European place, with the right signings. As they look ahead to the season, the fixture release date is always a key date to look out for, as the way the fixtures fall can inform so much about how a team's season might play out, in terms of momentum.
Last season, Steve Bruce's Magpies opened the season with a 4-2 home loss to West Ham United and it took them 15 games before they picked up a victory, despite a fairly kind start to the season. However, the end of the season was more difficult in terms of fixtures, as they faced Liverpool and Manchester City in consecutive games, conceding six and scoring none in those games, before they beat Arsenal at St James' Park and ended the season with a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor which saw Burnley relegated.
