MUMBAI: The untimely, tragic death of Australia's former swashbuckling batsman Andrew Symonds on Sunday left millions of cricket fans shocked and saddened. For those who were a part of the India Under-19 team which played the touring Australian Under-19 side back in 1993-94, it brought back memories of an 18-year-old precocious talent who dazzled everyone with his big-hitting ability.
Showing off the first signs of his enormous potential, which saw him earn many plaudits later at the international level, a young Symonds scored 343 runs in three 'tests'@68.60, with one hundred and two fifties-his highest score being 163. A fledgling batsman, he was the highest run-getter on either side on that tour.
