Your internet provider may know that you visited a shopping website late at night, but that doesn’t automatically mean it can see the embarrassing item you bought. The difference comes down to how websites communicate, what information your connection reveals, and which privacy tools you use.
Your internet service provider (ISP) connects your home to the internet. That position gives it access to certain information about your online activity, even if you never tell it anything about yourself. But an ISP doesn’t automatically receive a complete transcript of your browsing, your passwords, or every message you send.
