- East Midlands Railway (EMR) has warned passengers of severe disruption to services to and from London St Pancras over the August bank holiday weekend due to strike action by Rail, Maritime and Transport ( RMT ) union members.
- The RMT walkout on Sunday 30 August and Monday 31 August stems from safety concerns regarding Class 810 trains, with the union demanding that faulty carriages featuring broken air conditioning, door defects, and non-operational toilets be removed from service.
- Passengers are strongly advised to travel only if essential as EMR will operate a significantly reduced timetable, while major stations including London St Pancras, Sheffield, and Nottingham are expected to experience severe crowding and queuing.
- Travel disruption will be further compounded on Sunday by Network Rail digital signalling upgrades, which will result in no LNER trains running between London King's Cross and Peterborough.
- Although EMR customer experience director Philippa Cresswell apologised for the impact on travel plans and confirmed ongoing discussions, RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey urged management to act on members' safety concerns without delay.
