Despite Matt Turner returning to the matchday squad in Arsenal's win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, third choice goalkeeper Karl Hein was named in the starting Xl for the Gunners' Carabao Cup clash with Brighton.
Hein had not featured for the Arsenal first team but had made over 30 appearances as part of the under-21s and was given the nod over Turner for Wednesday evening's fixture against the Seagulls.
The 20-year-old had made a composed start to his Arsenal senior career, dealing with everything that came his way in the opening 20 minutes before giving away a penalty. The youngster seemed as though he was the favourite to win the race for the ball with former Gunner Danny Welbeck.

However, as Welbeck began to get closer to the ball there was no sign of Hein and that was because he had slipped on his way to try and claim the ball meaning Welbeck became the favourite and in a desperate attempt to salvage his error, Hein reached out to palm the ball away but Welbeck had beaten him to it and was fouled by his outstretched left arm.
Welbeck then won the battle of wits with Hein, sending him the wrong way from the penalty spot. He then chose not to celebrate against his old club with a goal that also placed him as a record-holder as the first person to score four goals at Emirates Stadium with four different teams (Arsenal, Manchester United, Watford and Brighton).
As the Seagulls players ran back to the halfway line, Hein looked on in dismay but was comforted by both Rob Holding and William Saliba who offered him a firm pat on the back and consoling high five, respectfully.
