Rishi Sunak became the UK's new Prime Minister following an accelerated leadership contest that did not involve a vote among grassroots Conservative Party members. And, since getting the keys to 10 Downing Street, he has promised to stick to the promises made in the 2019 manifesto that delivered the Tories a landslide election victory.
But this was the second leadership battle Mr Sunak had fought in a matter of months, following his failed bid to beat Liz Truss to the top job over summer. This contest did go to a vote among Tory members, with both contenders making specific pledges as to what they would do on becoming Prime Minister.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that Mr Sunak may be pressing ahead with one of the promises he made earlier this year. In an interview in July, he said he would bring in a £10 fine for missed GP and hospital appointments as part of a shake-up of the NHS.
