The May 22 episode of Jeopardy! Masters 2024 marks the finals of the tournament, with Victoria Groce, James Holzhaue and Yogesh Raut vying for the Jeopardy! Masters champion title and its $500,000 prize. That potentially makes the Final Jeopardy clues as important as ever.
But you don't have to be one of the contestants though to have some fun. Racking your brain to come up with the answer at home is a big part of the viewing experience. Jeopardy! Masters game 1 Final Jeopardy
In the first of the two final games where the winner will be based on cumulative points, Holzhauer and Groce scored impressive scores of 27,200 and 25,200 in an exciting back and forth. Raut will have some work to do to catch up, but he can start chipping away with the game 1 Final Jeopardy, where the category is "Politicians." Here's the clue:
"This man was the first to be governor of one state & then senator from another, 173 years later, Mitt Romney became the second."

And the answer is...
Who is Sam Houston?
Houston was the governor of Tennessee from 1837-1829 before he would go on to represent the state of Texas as a senator from 1846-1859.
We said Raut could claw his way back into contention with Final Jeopardy, and indeed he did, as his correct answer and all-in wager doubled his score to 19,200. With Groce giving a wrong answer and dropping to 21,400 and a wager of 1,109 only brining Holzhauer to 28,309 after his correct answer, all three players are within 10,000 points heading into the final game.
Jeopardy! Masters game 2 Final Jeopardy
As close as game 1 was, game 2 was a runaway for Groce, who found both Daily Doubles in the Double Jeopardy round and built up a major lead that makes her uncatchable in this game. But is it a big enough lead with the combined scores of both games to lock up the Jeopardy! Masters title? That's math we don't want to deal with right now, so we'll just focus on the Final Jeopardy category, "American Women," and its clue:
"The New York Times wrote of this woman who had died in 1951, 'though she was forgotten at the time, part of her remained alive.'"

And the answer is...
Who is Henrietta Lacks?
Lacks was an African American woman whose cancer cells were taken and used for medical research, widely considered one of the most important cells lines in the field. However, Lacks did not given consent for her cells to be used in such a way, as was common practice at the time.
All of the finalists nailed the the Final Jeopardy, but Holzahuer and Raut knew they were beat, as Groce could not be caught. That means that Groce, who before the Jeopardy! Invitiational Tournament had only one Jeopardy! win to her name, becomes the second-ever Jeopardy! Masters champion.
