What We Want To See Added To Sonic Racing CrossWorlds In 2026

When Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched in late 2025, it promised a racing experience that transcended dimensions. It is safe to say that SEGA stuck to its promise and delivered exactly that to fans. CrossWorlds blends the technical depth of SEGA Rally with the chaotic charm of the Sonic universe, and it’s incredibly fun.

However, we feel the game has much more potential and only the surface has been scratched as of yet. With the core mechanics now firmly established and the Switch 2 era in full swing, the community is looking beyond the initial roadmap. It’s time that SEGA delivered the missing pieces of the puzzle: the legacy characters, untapped dimensions, and the quality of life updates that can seriously take the game to the next level.

The “Deep Cut” Roster

SEGA has provided fans with an already stacked roster, but several fan favourites are still missing from the starting grid. Tangle and Whisper are here, but fans have a wishlist of their own for the characters they want to see in the game for 2026 and beyond.

Fans have requested many characters to be added, including villains, classics, and even the legends. Let’s start with the villains they expect to see during the next year. Chaos, Infinite, and Mephiles are the most requested villains so far, and there’s no doubt they’ll make an appearance sometime down the line.

Next up, we take a look at classics such as Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. These additions will definitely attract more fans to the game, especially those who are older fans of the Sonic Universe. Joe Musashi from Shinobi and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia are some deep cuts from non-Sonic SEGA games that fans also want.

Of course, the reason SEGA isn’t talking or teasing these characters much is that the people who want them are somewhat of a vocal minority. The masses are more likely to root for someone like SpongeBob or Steve from Minecraft. However, it would be nice to see SEGA please their more dedicated fans.

Better Voice Acting

There’s no doubt that Sonic Racing Crossworlds has a ton of personality, but there are still some limitations here. The most widespread criticism following the late 2025 character drops is the lack of voice lines, and this goes mainly for SpongeBob SquarePants and Joker.

For a game that has been built on the charm of a multiverse crossover, fans feel that the experience is ruined when the characters are stripped of some of their iconic lines. We all think that the game would only ascend if the crossover characters got a few lines to say to spice things up in races.

The community is calling for a Voice Pack update in early 2026, in which they wish to see more tailored taunts, victory lines, and interaction dialogue for all premium DLC racers. This would ensure that Pac-Man and Mega Man don’t suffer the same silent fate. Again, the base characters have a good amount of voice lines and rival dialogue, but we’d like to see DLC characters get the same treatment.

Competitive Mode Overhaul

Another thing fans are pushing for is a Pure Racer. The player base is starting to mature, and the ranks are starting to climb to the 99,999 cap, so the community demands a mode that is just for pure racers. Currently, the gadget system demands a strategy that disrupts the gameplay. Many high-level players find the randomness of certain offensive items too disruptive for serious play.

Fans demand a dedicated matchmaking queue that disables combat items, leaving only the Speed Wisps and Shields, forcing the focus back onto the classics. The classics would include drift mechanics, perfect lines, and technical mastery of the new Switch 2 performance. For SEGA, this would mean revisiting the roots.

Now, I don’t personally agree with this take. Gadgets and the tracks are the most fun component of CrossWorlds after all. However, the game definitely needs a more focused competitive experience. Maybe limit the number or type of gadgets, and tweak the balance of some of the OP ones like the Boost Turner.
