What We Learned From Jannik Sinner's ATP Finals Victory

By now, you have heard that Italian tennis player and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner won the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.

Sinner barely broke a sweat and ran away with the final defeating American Taylor Fritz in straight sets.  His serve was not challenged and he did not drop a set on his way to a 5-0 record for the week.

Fritz did not play a bad match, but Jannik Sinner was better when it counted.

Now that the 2024 ATP season is a wrap, here is what we learned about men’s tennis this year.

    1. Jannik Sinner is a notch above the rest.  He won eight titles while losing just six matches.  Sinner was 70-6 overall.
    2. Carlos Alcaraz is fun to watch but inconsistent in key moments.
    3. Novak Djokovic’s gutsy Paris Olympics gold medal performance adds to his legendary status.
    4. The 10 1/2 month season that spans six continents is mentally and physically grueling for the players.
    5. Taylor Fritz was Alexander Zverev’s Achilles heel this year while Sinner was the thorn in Fritz’s side.
    6. Tennis will miss its retiring stars: Dominic Theim and Diego Schwartzman along with its retiring legends Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.

Some players will go on to represent their countries in the Davis Cup team competition.  Others will take a much-deserved vacation.  It will not be long before they are back at it, training for the 2025 Australian Open. Main draw matches start on January 12, 2025, when Jannik Sinner begins his defense of his maiden Grand Slam.
