What we know as US accused of dropping 900kg bomb on family home in Iran

  • The US military has been accused of killing a family – a mother, father, and their two-year-old son – during renewed strikes on Iran 's Qeshm Island last week, according to a new analysis.
  • American forces reportedly dropped a 907kg Mark 84 bomb on a populated neighbourhood in Chah-Tangu, leaving a 30ft wide crater, with the couple's other two children pulled alive from the rubble.
  • Analysis by the New York Times, based on photographs, video footage, and satellite imagery, found no evidence of a military site near the family's home, questioning the use of such a large bomb in a densely populated area.
  • US Central Command (Centcom) spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins stated they are investigating the reports and reiterated that the US military never targets civilians.
  • This incident follows previous scrutiny over a fatal strike on a girls' school in Minab, Iran, on the first day of the conflict, which Iranian officials claim killed over 175 children and teachers, prompting calls from Democratic senators for full investigation disclosure.
