The Golden State Warriors are at risk of losing Klay Thompson in unrestricted free agency. According to reports, they are yet to begin negotiating with their four-time champion about extending his stay in the Bay Area. As such, it’s looking increasingly likely that Thompson will now explore his options around the NBA.
Thompson is reportedly looking for a multi-year contract with the guarantee of a legitimate role. Joe Lacob has previously discussed his desire for the Warriors to duck under the luxury tax. They are currently hard-capped at the second apron following their trades on the second day of the NBA draft.
In a recent episode of ESPN’s SportsCenter, NBA Cap expert Bobby Marks breaks down the types of contracts the Warriors can extend to Thompson and whether he could get more from other teams during his foray into free agency.
