The archive that washed off every time
Your nani never called herself an artist. She sat cross-legged on a chowki before your cousin's wedding, a cone of henna in her hand, and drew from somewhere that had no name, no sketchbook, no reference print, no teacher she could point to. The pattern came out of her the way a song comes out of someone who learned it by hearing it a thousand times before they could speak. What she was doing had a lineage. It just didn't have a record.
