What to watch at Edinburgh Fringe – famous faces taking shows to festival

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival returns this year after a two-year hiatus, and has some of the best names in comedy gracing its many stages.

Its previous show was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic, so this year promises to be better than ever to make up for it.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the festival, making it even more special.

Edinburgh Fringe 2022 is set to run from August 3-29 and will feature work across 3,171 shows from 58 countries.

There will be 16 stages as well as a programme of free online shows for audiences to choose from. Tickets to the festival can be found online.

Paul Sinha

Paul Sinha graces our screens on weekdays as The Chase’s Sinnerman, but he is also an incredible stand-up comedian.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects the nervous system and parts of the body controlled by the nerves.

The Sinnerman has described his show this year, called “One Sinha Lifetime” as "second post-diagnosis album" and will discuss how his life has changed since being diagnosed, but with a comedic spin.

He will be performing at The Stand.

Phil Wang

British-Malaysian star Phil Wang has reached new heights in the last year, including his own Netflix Special, and a guest role in Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth.

His hour-long show, called The Real Hero In All This, will be a discussion of his family, his life and of race.

Phil’s last show in Edinburgh was all the way back in 2019, so he is no doubt dying to get back on stage and show his A-game.

It will be at Assembly George Square.

Maisie Adam

A veteran on Mock The Week and QI, sharp-witted Maisie Adam will perform a one hour long show at The Dining Room.

Maisie with the good hair promises a high energy show full of witty observations and cracking jokes.

Kiri Pritchard-McLean

Kiri Pritchard-McLean set up an online comedy club called The Covid Arms to keep us all entertained during lockdown. The show is still going strong despite the end of restrictions.

The Covid Arms has made over £150,000 for charity and counting.

Her show, Home Truths, will be at Monkey Barrel 3 and will be focussed on her life back in Anglesey with her pet chickens.

She has received four stars from the Guardian, List and the Telegraph, so this show definitely should not be missed.

Frank Skinner

A living legend in comedy no doubt, Frank Skinner will be returning to the Fringe.

His show is called 30 Years of Dirt, a title which is an ode to when he won the fringes Perrier award 31 years ago.

Frank’s recent tour Showbiz was critically acclaimed and sold out but this show will be brand new comedy material.

He will be performing every evening from August 4-28, except for Wednesdays at the Assembly Roxy.

Rosie Holt

Rosie’s show, The Woman's Hour, will be a classic satirical performance not unlike the videos that she posts online.

She has won a Chortle Award, and has a huge social media following for her videos imitating public figures.

Rosie will “become the news” for a full hour, as audiences watch her speak “truth” in what is sure to be a hilarious fashion.

She will perform at The Attic.
