All eyes will be on Auguste Rodin this weekend as the Aidan O’Brien star run in his final race in Tokyo, but just what time will the Japan Cup be shown in the UK and Ireland and will it be shown on TV?

Auguste Rodin will head off to stud after the Japan Cup, where he’ll stand for €30,000 at the Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
Over his career he’s raced 15 times (soon to be 16) and having won eight times, his trainer Aidan O’Brien will be hoping that becomes nine by the time he retires on Sunday.
During his time on the track, he’s amassed just shy of £5m in total prize money, while Auguste Rodin etched his name in the horse racing hall-of-fame by winning the 2023 Epsom Derby (watch below).
Prior to his 2024 Japan Cup bid Auguste Rodin had won six Group One races – including the 2023 Irish Derby and Breeders’ Cup Turf, while this season landed the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He’s been ridden on all bar one of his races by top jockey Ryan Moore.

Auguste Rodin Will Be Hoping To Become The First European-Trained Japan Cup Winner Since 2005
To find the last European-trained Japan Cup winner you have to go back to 2005 – when the Luca Cumani-trained and Frankie Dettori-ridden Alkaased won. Since then, EVERY winner has been trained in Japan.
Therefore, Auguste Rodin will be trying to break a 18-year run with no European winner – but his breeding suggests he’s got a leading chance.
This is because his sire is Deep Impact, who won the Japan Cup in 2006. This is the reason a lot of Japanese horse racing lovers have taken a close interest in Auguste Rodin (Gussy to his friends) in this year’s renewal.
Europe will also have another big interest in the Japan Cup – as Goliath, the horse that beat Auguste Rodin in this year’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is also heading over. He’ll he ridden by Christophe Soumillon.
