What time is the Taoiseach addressing Ireland and how can I watch Micheal Martin's speech? All you need to know

Ireland will find out in just a few hours how the next few weeks are going to look as Covid-19 restrictions are set to be pulled back.

After over a month of pub curfew, crowd caps and other rules, sources have told the Irish Mirror that there is "very good news" about the relaxation of Covid guidelines after the decision and advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team.

The Cabinet will meet later on Friday, after which it is widely expected that Taoiseach Micheal Martin will address the nation for the first time in 2022.

But what time will that happen, and what will be said?

What time is the Taoiseach's speech?

The Taoiseach will take to the steps outside Government buildings from shortly after 6pm.

How can I watch the Taoiseach's speech?

RTE will broadcast it on the Six One news and we expect Virgin Media News to also carry the Fianna Fail leader's speech live on an extended version of their News at 5.30.

Alternatively, you can follow along with everything Micheal Martin says via the dedicated live blog from the Irish Mirror here.

What is the Taoiseach expected to say?

It’s expected that pubs will be told can go back to pulling pints late into the night from early next week.

However, Cabinet Ministers will decide at 3pm if pubs could open as early as this weekend.

NPHET has given the Government the green light to decide when full capacity can return at outdoor and indoor events, no limit on household visits and the reopening of nightclubs.

In his letter to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, Dr Tony Holohan also said the Government could end the two metre social distancing rule and that working from home can end on a phased basis.

The only rules that are expected to remain for some time include mask wearing in crowded settings and on public transport and schools, Covid passes for international travel and rules for people to isolate if they become symptomatic.
