Gareth Southgate will name his 26-man England squad for this winter's World Cup on Thursday afternoon. This weekend will see the Premier League fulfil its final round of fixtures before a six-week hiatus to allow the inaugural winter edition of the World Cup to take place.
Both Liverpool and Everton are expected to have representatives in Southgate's squad with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Jordan Pickford and Conor Coady all regular fixtures in the Three Lions squad.
It remains to be seen if Joe Gomez - who has weathered a mixed season so far at Anfield - will be named as part of Southgate's 26-man entourage later this afternoon. The defender is yet to be called up to the England squad since suffering a season-ending patella tendon injury in November 2020. Blues defender James Tarkowski, who has impressed since making the move to Goodison Park after the expiration of his contract at Burnley earlier this year, also faces a nervous wait.

Other key decisions will see Southgate determine whether he names the in-form Leicester City ace James Maddison in his 26-man squad for the finals, despite the 25-year-old not receiving a call-up to the Three Lions squad since late 2019.
Both Everton and Liverpool have announced their plans for those not travelling to Qatar, with Frank Lampard's side heading to Australia for a double header against Celtic and A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers. Meanwhile, the Reds will travel to Dubai for a lengthy training spell which Jurgen Klopp has likened to a "pre-season" camp.
The Three Lions have been drawn in Group B for the showpiece tournament in Qatar and will face Iran, Wales and the United States in their three group stage matches.
