Ireland’s quest for a first win in this year’s Six Nations Championship continues in Cork on Sunday as Italy are the opponents.
It’s two defeats from two for new Irish boss Greg McWilliams as the opening day loss to Wales was followed up by a bruising defeat away to France.
The semi-professional French had too much pace and power for Ireland, who gave up a bonus point by half time in a 40-5 defeat.
With England and Scotland on the horizon in the final two games, this meeting between the winless pair may just decide who gets the wooden spoon.
McWilliams will hope it’s not his side, but they’ll have a tough task against a side who topped Ireland’s qualifying group for this year’s World Cup.
Ireland did manage a narrow win in their encounter in that group, but Italy are ranked above Ireland and last tasted victory in the tie three years ago.

She’s had to bide her time on the bench for the first two rounds but Beibhinn Parsons is one of the most explosive wingers in European rugby.
The Connacht player is one of six changes to the team and, with Aimee-Leigh Murphy Crowe on the opposite wing, Ireland have the pace and elusiveness to stretch Italy.
Despite only scoring six points in their two games to date, including a nil against England last week, Italy’s instinct is to attack through the backs.
The midfield combination of Beatrice Rigoni and Michela Sillari are key to that, with the former’s kicking game adding another layer to their attack.
