What Thomas Tuchel said about Robert Lewandowski amid Romelu Lukaku Chelsea transfer rumours

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has already had his say on potential striking target for next season Robert Lewandowski amid Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner exit rumours.

With the Liverpool FA Cup final once again exposing the Blues' attacking deficiencies in not taking any of their chances, attentions have now turned to the transfer window and what Todd Boehly is preparing to do once this whole takeover saga comes to an end.

If the LA Dodgers owner is able to complete the £4.25billion takeover of the club amid late and worrying Roman Abramovich updates, the general consensus is that he will back both Tuchel and women's manager Emma Hayes with reinforcements which will help take their respective sides to the next level.

Chelsea Women do not need as many alterations as the men's after they completed the double at the weekend with their win over Man City in the FA Cup final. It's a different story with the men, however, who are set to undergo major changes in the upcoming months.

The whole backline is set to be shaken up with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta seemingly all off to La Liga for 2022/23. Lukaku and Werner both could follow in their footsteps but this time to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in the pair who haven't shown their quality consistently this term for Tuchel.

In spite of the club record signing's latest resurgence in form, according to his agent, he will still hold talks with Boehly's consortium over his future. The same doubt applies to Werner who hasn't been a mainstay in the lineup in recent times.

If both or even one were to go this summer, the Blues will be on the hunt for a new No.9 and the latest name to be linked as per the Guardian is the Bavarian's all-time second-highest goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international, who would reportedly prefer a Barcelona move this summer, is highly admired by Tuchel and his coaching staff and based on past comments, the former Borussia Dortmund manager holds the 33-year-old in high regard.

First off, when Lukaku initially agreed to his homecoming which promised so much, Tuchel made a joke that Lewandowski and Erling Haaland would have completed his dream summer. transfer window for 2021/22.

He joked back at the time: "We tried both (to sign Lukaku and Haaland) and wanted to have Lewandowski on the No.10 behind. Unfortunately, the board didn’t listen so we need to be happy with only Romelu!

"We missed a lot of opportunities out there on the transfer market that’s why you find me very upset! We don’t know how we should continue!"

A few months later, when Lewandowksi had missed out on winning a Ballon d'Or title, Tuchel confirmed his true feelings regarding his own 'surprise' verdict on this matter.

“My players were surprised that Lewandowski didn’t win last year," he told the press back in December, 2021. "There are some surprises in it. It is an election. In the end, we come from sports. We accept and go on."

He then cryptically went on to reaffirm his surprise at Lewandowski's constant Ballon d'Or snubs over the years: "I take my right to not have an opinion on this one. We have ourselves a player who won all major trophies and was hugely involved, so would not have been a surprise if he lifted the trophy.

"It was a choice, I think it’s election. It’s elected. You have to take it, if you like it or not you accept it. Life goes on pretty easy after yesterday."
